Whiplash Sources of Pain

Auto Accidents that cause whiplash or sprains/strains to any part of the spine are majorly due to Myofascial Trauma and Injury. Muscular strain in the cervical area can be extremely complex. The large number of small muscles in this region has different functions according to what position the head is in. The neck musculature happens to be in an area that is predisposed to strain types of injuries. Sometimes it may be difficult to tell whether it is simply a sprain/strain, typical whiplash or whether it has nerve root involvement or both. A Chiropractor is a doctor who can figure this out for you very quickly. These types of cases walk into Chiropractic offices every day. Whiplash caused by a motor vehicle accident should be evaluated by a chiropractor to ensure that you have no nerve compression and that it is indeed pain from a purely Myofascial source and what treatment options would be best for your condition. Not every Whiplash is the same and many times even though the pain is purely from Myofascia, the treatment differs according to what exact muscles were damaged. My next blog will address Ligament damage in regards to Whiplash. At some point we will also discuss Nerve Damage.
