Treatment of Dizziness Post Auto Accident

If the dizziness is caused by nerve damage in the cervical spine, chiropractic manipulation might be helpful. In severe cases of disc damage etc. surgery may be in order, but surgery is a rare need and also not often helpful in whiplash injuries. Most cases of dizziness are due to soft tissue damage: damage to the muscles, fascia, tendons or ligaments. Thus in most cases direct work on that soft tissue can readily improve the symptoms of dizziness. Studies have shown that as the normal range of motion of the neck begins to return, the dizziness begins to subside. Massage and Chiropractic can have wonderful results with this type of post auto accident dizziness.

Many times there is a component of dizziness symptoms that benefit from rehabilitation that includes some postural awareness and balance type of treatment. The joints in the neck have many proprioceptive fibers. When injured this can throw off your ability to properly discern your place in space and cause dizziness. Chiropractic manipulation and soft tissue techniques can also help these joints heal thereby restoring your proprioception and reducing dizziness. Dizziness that does not respond to these methods and seems not to improve may need to be referred to a specialist.
